Orange Shirt Day: September 29

Please consider wearing orange on Friday, September 29 to acknowledge the legacy of residential schools in Canada and to honour the survivors.

You can purchase your own orange shirt from the Aboriginal Student Council: pre-order your shirt by stopping by A119 or calling 519-542-7751, extension 3494.

You can also stop by the information table outside the cafeteria on Friday, September 29 to learn more about the history of residential schools in this country.

Proceeds from shirt sales will support this year's Round Dance and Pow Wow--check back for more information on both events.

Friday: Orange Shirt Day

Friday, September 30 is orange shirt day, a day to remember the generations of aboriginal students forced away from their families and into residential schools. 

If you haven't yet purchased your orange shirt, you can stop by the Aboriginal Cultural & Learning Centre, where shirts will be on sale for $20. Orange ribbons will also be sold.

All proceeds from these sales will help to fund this year's Round Dance and Pow Wow.

Remembering the Victims of Residential School

Tomorrow, September 30, is Orange Shirt Day. Wear orange to honour the survivors of Indian Residential Schools.

Indian Residential Schools, sponsored by the Canadian government and various churches, systematically removed First Nations children from their families for 150 years in an attempt to erase all traces of First Nations' cultures. Earlier this year, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released a report and a series of recommendations. Acknowledging the history and the pain is an important first step.
